Rep. Vasquez Statement on Speaker Johnson Refusing to Vote on Funding Bill to End DHS Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C.- On March 27, 2025, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02)released the following statement after Speaker Johnson refused to allow the House to vote on the bipartisan bill to restore funding to TSA and other critical agencies at DHS:

"The Republican-controlled Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan bill that would fund TSA immediately and end the chaos at the airports. I stand ready to vote for this bill and get TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard and other critical components of DHS back to full strength.

Instead, Speaker Johnson caved to MAGA extremists and is refusing to put this bipartisan agreement on the floor for a vote. Now, chaos will continue while Republicans in Congress continue to argue.

It's ridiculous that the Speaker refused to let the House vote on something that has unanimous bipartisan support in the Senate. This is Washington dysfunction at its worst-only the Speaker and House Republicans stand in the way of ending airport chaos. The Speaker shouldn't let extremists hold TSA and Americans hostage."

The bipartisan funding bill passed in the Senate would fund 94 percent of DHS, including TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA, while allowing negotiations related to ICE reforms to continue. Earlier this month, Rep. Vasquez joined a petitionto force a vote to fund DHS agencies not associated with the Administration's mass deportation campaign.
