Public response sought for Northwest Arkansas Rail Corridor Safety Study

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Public response is requested on proposed concepts for the Northwest Arkansas Rail Corridor Safety Study at eight railroad crossings in Springdale and Fayetteville. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on the recommendations for the railroad crossings to improve comfort, connectivity and safety.

The study is led by the City of Fayetteville, in collaboration with the City of Springdale and the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad, to recommend safety improvements at eight crossings along a 14-mile corridor, including:

  • Apple Blossom Avenue
  • Randall Wobbe Drive
  • Sunset Avenue
  • Shady Grove Road
  • Jocelyn Lane
  • Frisco Avenue
  • Dickson Street
  • University Avenue

Community members can view recommendations and share their feedback online through Dec. 11 or in-person at a Public Open House, which will have Spanish and Marshallese interpreters on-site:

  • Monday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Shiloh Museum, 118 W. Johnson Avenue, Springdale;
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Fayetteville City Hall, Room 101, 113 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville.

Following this last round of public engagement, the study team will finalize recommendations to the cities. The cities then will be able to pursue funding for design and construction for applicable projects. Currently, no funds have been identified for construction.

The public can stay in touch with their elected officials, visit city websites, follow bond projects and watch for notices about future projects.
