UToledo Kicks Off Fall Semester with Rocket Welcome Weekend

The University of Toledo will kick off the fall semester with Rocket Welcome Weekend, four days of on-campus events and activities running Thursday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 30.

First-year students are set to move into residence halls on Thursday, Aug. 27, and Friday, Aug. 28, ahead of the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 31. President James Holloway will be on hand to greet students during move-in from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday's activities also include an IFC (Interfraternity Council) Cookout from 4 to 6 p.m. at McComas Village and the HAV Cookout from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Honors Academic Village. The day concludes with the Residence Life Bonfire from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Flatlands.

Friday's schedule begins with Donuts with the Dean of Students from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in Thompson Student Union Ingman Room, followed by Academic Adventure from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

The Class of 2030 Lunch will take place from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Flatlands, followed by the Class of 2030 photo from 1:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Glass Bowl Stadium.

Students will then head to Rocky's Welcome from 2 to 3 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Auditorium. The annual tradition introduces new Rockets to campus leaders, traditions and the spirit of Rocket Nation. Faculty and staff interested in welcoming the incoming class are asked to arrive no later than 1:45 p.m.

Later Friday, Yard Games with the College of Arts and Letters will take place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Flatlands, followed by the CAP Carnival from 7 to 9 p.m. at Carter Field. Students can close out the day at Night at the Rec from 9 to 11 p.m., featuring various activities and giveaways.

"Rocket Welcome Weekend and Welcome Weeks are all about creating exciting opportunities for students to find their place at UToledo from the moment they arrive on campus," said Dr. Sammy Spann, vice provost and dean of students. "There is so much energy, pride and momentum on campus at the start of the semester, and we are thrilled to help our newest Rockets jump into the experience, make unforgettable first memories, and begin building their Rocket journey from day one."

The weekend continues Saturday, Aug. 29, with Mud Volleyball from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Flatlands. That evening, students can gather inside the Glass Bowl for Flicks on the Field from 8 to 10 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 30, students can start the day with Sunrise Yoga in the Glass Bowl from 6 to 9 a.m. Rocket Welcome Weekend concludes with Jam Session from 6 to 8 p.m. on the steps of Thompson Student Union.

UToledo's Welcome Weeks will continue with several annual activities for all Rockets, including Sundae on a Monday, which will see faculty and staff serving up ice cream from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, and the Campus Involvement Fair, which will showcase dozens of campus and community organizations from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Sundae on a Monday and the Campus Involvement Fair both take place on Centennial Mall.

Welcome Weeks continue through Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 10.
