UC Blue Ash begins fall semester with more students and exciting new technology

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is continuing its impressive growth, renovating its campus and adding innovative technology as it begins the fall semester. Enrollment is up approximately 3% from last year, bringing the total enrollment for the college to more than 5,000 students. This marks the fifth consecutive year that UC Blue Ash has increased its enrollment.
With more students coming to campus this fall, the college is introducing new additions and improvements to keep up with the growth. These include a renovated Veterinary Technology Building, a new Anatomage table that provides cutting-edge learning opportunities for students and an impressive mosaic that was recently installed in the Muntz Hall Atrium, adding new color and warmth to this popular space for students.

The Veterinary Technology Building renovation is wrapping up as the semester begins. It focused on creating additional space for students while repurposing existing areas to better serve the needs of the program. Most of the project's funding was provided through a $300,000 grant received this spring from the L&L Nippert Charitable Foundation.
The main priority of the project was to provide Veterinary Technology students with more space to study or take a break between classes and labs. The renovations include a new student lounge with several tables and seating for up to 30 people, a sink, microwaves and cabinets. The project also adds a conference room, storage room, exam/intake room and an office suite with cubicles for faculty and staff.

Students, faculty and staff in science and healthcare programs will have access to the new Anatomage table. The seven-foot-long interactive table provides life-size digital representations of human bodies, as well as several animals, giving users access to three-dimensional anatomy, physiology and digital pathology. The technology allows students to virtually dissect digital models by peeling back layers of skin and muscle and rotating the models in 3D using the interactive touchscreen. Students can also visualize beating hearts, trace blood flow and simulate specific health conditions such as a heart attack.
Artwork Adds Color to Popular Student Space

Students will also see a colorful new addition to the Muntz Hall Atrium. "Sol" is the title for the large-scale artwork by artist Guy Kemper that was recently installed on a three-story brick wall in the space. The piece is over 25 feet high by 9 feet wide and features more than 100,000 pieces of glass tiles that create a mosaic of bright, warm colors designed to represent growth.
The impressive artwork was selected through a process that included more than 100 submissions to the Ohio Arts Council. Part of the funding for "Sol" comes through Ohio's Percent for Art program, which was established by the Ohio legislature in 1990 to provide funding for artwork in new or renovated public buildings.

A look ahead to fall
UC Blue Ash offers more than 50 academic programs, including bachelor's and associate degrees, with in-person and online options. The college continues to expand its academic offerings to meet the needs of students and the region while maintaining a smaller campus environment, small classes and a 16:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
Students also have access to academic support labs, advising and a variety of campus organizations and activities. With continued enrollment growth and new spaces, technology and artwork across campus, UC Blue Ash is poised to build on its national rating for advancing student success.
