On the margins of the Third International Conference on #Sudan in Berlin, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, held a series of high-level bilateral engagements with key international partners, including H.E. @EspenBarthEide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway; H.E. Giorgos Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic; H.E. Ms @kajakallas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy; H.E. @US_SrAdvisorAF, Senior Advisor to the President of the United States on Africa; & H.E. Niels Annen, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ).
The exchanges focused on advancing peace & security across the African continent, with particular attention to the situation in Sudan and the broader regional implications.
Discussions also addressed the socio-economic impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions, including developments in the Persian Gulf, on African economies & stability.
The Chairperson underscored the imperative of strengthening coordinated multilateral responses, reaffirming the centrality of African-led & African-owned solutions to conflict resolution. In this regard, there was a shared recognition of the need to enhance predictable & sustainable support for AU peace support operations, as well as to advance the Union's institutional reform agenda to ensure greater efficiency, coherence, and strategic impact.
