Leader Schumer Statement Following Supreme Court Decision Giving Big-Money Special Interest Groups More Power To Buy Elections

New York, N.Y. - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement after the Supreme Court struck down limits on how party committees can coordinate with candidates:

"Trump's MAGA Supreme Court just gave the very wealthy and big-money special interest groups the green light to buy elections.

"Today's decision eviscerates one of the last fragile guardrails on coordinated political spending and will unleash a new arms race of campaign spending, bringing in even more special interest money to our elections.

"For decades, Americans have been demanding less dark money, less special interest influence, and more transparency in elections. Instead, the MAGA Court turned its back on the American people and its own precedent to create a direct pipeline for corporate interest donors to buy access and influence over politicians.

"From Citizens United to today, the MAGA Supreme Court has put the interest of the wealthy and well-connected ahead of the American people. Every candidate should answer to the people they serve, not those trying to buy elections and influence."
