"Sharing the Spirit of America" is a nationwide initiative of America250 as sites across the nation honor the first public reading of the nation's founding document on July 8, 1776. At 6 pm Eastern Time, people across the United States, from the territory of Guam through the 50 states all the way to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, will read the Declaration at the same time.
Weather permitting, the reading will take place beside the historic Francis McNairy House, a witness to the American Revolution here in Guilford County. Alongside the reading there will be a musical performance and an opportunity for participants to share their own thoughts about the meaning of the Declaration of Independence today.
"Sharing the Spirit of America" is part of America 250 Guilford County and the Greensboro History Museum's America250 community programming. As the country marks its 250th anniversary, the museum invites residents to have fun exploring the past, reflecting on our shared history and participating in a group portrait of our city today. For a complete list of activities visit this page on the Museum's website. Learn about additional America 250 - Guilford County events at this website.
