An update on the presidential search

The following message was sent by the Boise State University Presidential Search Committee to the Idaho State Board of Education on Oct. 2, 2025.

Re: Boise State University Presidential Search

Dear Idaho State Board of Education,

On behalf of the Boise State University Presidential Search Committee, we write to provide an update on the progress of our work.

The committee has conducted an extensive national search to identify candidates who possess the qualifications and vision to lead Boise State University into its next chapter. While the search process generated significant interest and qualified candidates, the committee does not, at this time, have five such finalists to present to the Board for consideration.

Given these circumstances, the committee recommends extending the search timeline. This is the most responsible course of action to ensure that Boise State secures a president with the full experience, character, and strategic vision to guide the university forward.

We further recommend that the Board revisit both the approach and scope of the search in partnership with the firm retained to assist us, as well as with the search committee itself, before resuming the process. This reflection will allow us to make any adjustments needed to grow the pool of candidates and ensure Boise State retains the strongest possible candidates.

In the meantime, Boise State remains in capable hands. The university's current leadership team is providing stability and continuity during this transition, and the committee is confident in their ability to continue advancing Boise State's mission while the search is ongoing.

We remain committed to working with the Board to identify the right leader for Boise State University and stand ready to assist in any next steps the Board determines appropriate.
