Kansas Corn hosted a group of South Korean feed manufactures and corn buyers in September to provide procurement training and market corn and distillers grains. The group, sponsored by the U.S. Grains & Bioproducts Council, consisted of 18 decision makers from South Korea in the feed, procurement and food sectors as well as a representative from the Korean Feed Association.
"South Korea doesn't always come to mind when we talk about corn export markets," said Connie Fischer, Vice President of Market Development and Grower Services. "But they are a vital corn and corn products export market for the U.S., taking 242 million bushels of corn, 89 million gallons of ethanol and 1.5 million tons of DDGS a year."
While in Kansas, the group participated in a procurement seminar hosted by Kansas Corn, featuring Darrell Holaday from Advanced Market Concepts. They also toured a feed mill, visited Nunemaker-Ross Farm and feedlot and finished up their trade mission with a trip to the DeLong Container shipping yard to see how DDGS are loaded for shipment to South Korea.
