Mayor Kraham Provides Update On $10.8 Million Neighborhood Street Improvement Plan
- 2026 Work Includes Fresh Pavement, New Sidewalks, Focus On Stormwater Infrastructure For Dozens Of Neighborhood Streets -
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.) - Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Monday visited construction crews on Dickinson Street in the First Ward to provide an update on the City's 2026 neighborhood street improvement plan.
Mayor Kraham said: "Binghamton's neighborhoods are getting stronger, and this year's street improvement plan is another major step forward. From new pavement and sidewalks that make our streets safer and more walkable, to critical upgrades to our stormwater infrastructure that build flood resilience across the City, we're making investments that improve daily life for residents. I'm proud of the progress we've made rebuilding Binghamton's infrastructure, and we're not slowing down."
The City's approximately $10.8 million infrastructure improvement plan for this year includes:
· Milling and paving approximately 40 streets, estimated at $1.9 million
· Water, sewer and stormwater upgrades, estimated at $7.6 million
· Curb and sidewalk upgrades, including ADA-accessible ramps, estimated at $1.3 million
Among the dozens of streets set to be milled and paved this season are Beethoven Street, Exchange Street, Fellows Avenue, Lyon Street, Seminary Avenue and Vestal Avenue.
The City uses a pavement rating technology called Road AI, which utilizes artificial intelligence to assess road conditions, to help identify infrastructure priorities and develop annual street improvement plans.
This year's infrastructure work is funded by a combination of Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) grant funding, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and local capital bond.
