Chris Bunch Named Interim Director of Athletics for Webster University

Webster University Men's Basketball Coach Chris Bunch was appointed the interim director of athletics for Webster University. Bunch, who has been a Webster coach for nearly 24 years, will assume the role immediately.

"I am very honored to lead an athletic department that has been so successful and is comprised of such a tremendous group of coaches and student-athletes," Bunch said. "I am thankful for our administration that has given me this wonderful opportunity. I am excited to help build on that and continue to show why Webster University is such a special place."

Bunch has coached the men's basketball team since 2001. He is the all-time winningest men's basketball coach in Webster history and led the program to nine SLIAC regular season titles, three SLIAC Tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Bunch has been chosen as the SLIAC Coach of the Year eight times, including this year. During the 2025-2026 season, he led the Gorloks to a 16-game SLIAC unbeaten streak which set the new Webster University Men's Basketball program record for most consecutive conference wins in a single season.

He previously was awarded the D3Hoops.com Central Region Coach of the Year in 2013-14 after leading Webster to a 20-8 overall record, a SLIAC Tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament.

Before coming to Webster, Bunch was an assistant coach at Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. for two years. Bunch also served as a high school head basketball coach for seven years at South Greene High School in Greenville, Tenn. As a high school coach, Bunch won 100 games and had two teams that were ranked in the Top 10 in the state of Tennessee.

Bunch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Science Education and a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn.
