Living with diabetes can feel overwhelming, but no one has to navigate it alone. Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics is inviting community members to join its monthly Diabetes Support Group, a welcoming space to learn, ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others facing similar challenges.
The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. in the community room at the Calumet Public Library. Meetings are free and open to the public.
Whether you have type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or care for someone living with diabetes, the group offers practical education, encouragement, and support to help participants lead healthier lives.
"Managing diabetes today involves more information, technology, and treatment options than ever before," said Beth Cook, RDN, CDCES, Clinical Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist at Aspirus Keweenaw. "Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where people can get reliable answers, learn new skills, and connect with others who understand what they're experiencing."
Each session includes discussion and education on topics such as:
Participants are encouraged to bring questions and share their experiences. Family members, friends, and caregivers are also welcome.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, millions of Americans are living with diabetes or prediabetes, often without recognizing the warning signs. Learning how to manage risk factors and make informed health decisions can help prevent complications and improve quality of life.
"One of the most valuable parts of the group is realizing you're not alone," Cook said. "People leave with practical information, greater confidence, and encouragement from others who are on a similar journey."
