Senior Drivers Day – Seniors Test Their Driving Skills Safely

On 3 June 2026, around sixty senior drivers aged between 60 and 70 gathered at the Driver Safety Training Centre in Colmar-Berg for Senior Drivers Day, an initiative dedicated to road safety and preserving independence on the road.

Organised by the GERO Kompetenzzenter fir den Alter and the Driver Safety Training Centre, in collaboration with the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, and with the support of the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, this annual event aims to raise awareness of road safety risks while encouraging driving practices adapted to age-related needs.

Designed as an opportunity for learning and discussion, the event forms part of a positive and inclusive approach aimed at strengthening seniors' confidence and helping them maintain their independence behind the wheel for as long as possible.

Throughout the day, participants took part in a comprehensive programme combining practical driving exercises with theoretical information sessions.

Senior Drivers Day recognises the experience of senior drivers while supporting them in adapting to changes in mobility. As such, it serves as an important tool for prevention and promoting responsible behaviour on the road, helping to make roads safer in a spirit of confidence and mutual respect.

"By recognising the experience of senior drivers while supporting them in adapting to changes in mobility, Senior Drivers Day makes a tangible contribution to safer roads. It is an important tool for prevention and promoting responsible behaviour on the road, built on trust and respect. Because road safety is everyone's responsibility, every shared experience strengthens our collective vigilance and confidence behind the wheel," said Minister Yuriko Backes during the presentation of certificates to participants, commending their commitment to safe and responsible driving.
