Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper Announces Nearly $1 Million in Georgia Farm to Food Bank Program Awards

ATLANTA, GA - Today, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper announced that the Georgia Farm to Food Bank Program, a partnership between the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Feeding Georgia, has awarded $825,000 to eight regional food banks across the state. The Farm to Food Bank Program provides more than 14 million pounds of fresh produce to Georgians facing food insecurity by purchasing "unmarketable" but otherwise healthy produce from Georgia farmers and distributing it to Georgians in need via the Georgia Food Bank Network. The Program is supported by an annual appropriation from the Georgia General Assembly.

"Through Georgia's Farm to Food Bank Program, we are helping provide fresh, healthy food to Georgians in need while supporting our state's #1 industry and the farm families who fuel its success," said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper. "I am incredibly proud of the Farm to Food Bank Program, and I look forward to working with Feeding Georgia and my colleagues in the legislature to build on the success of this great program."

This year's Farm to Food Bank awards include:

  • Atlanta Community Food Bank - $125,000
  • Golden Harvest Food Bank (Augusta) - $100,000
  • Feeding the Valley Food Bank (Columbus) - $100,000
  • Second Harvest of South Georgia (Valdosta) - $100,000
  • America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia (Savannah) - $100,000
  • Middle Georgia Community Food Bank (Macon) - $100,000
  • Food Bank of Northeast Georgia (Athens) - $100,000
  • Chattanooga Area Food Bank (serving Northwest Georgia) - $100,000

About the Farm to Food Bank Program
The Farm to Food Bank program strengthens Georgia's agricultural economy while reducing food waste and expanding access to fresh, healthy foods for families in need. By purchasing surplus or unmarketable produce and dairy products directly from Georgia farmers, the program helps farmers recover costs while ensuring safe, wholesome food does not go to waste.
