Oswego, NY - Congresswomen Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today reminded Medicare beneficiaries across New York's 24th Congressional District that the annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period is underway. From October 15 through December 7, 2026, eligible individuals can review their current Medicare coverage, compare available health and prescription drug plans, and make changes for 2027.
During Open Enrollment, Medicare beneficiaries can switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage, change Medicare Advantage plans, or join, switch, or drop Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. Any changes made during this period will take effect on January 1, 2027. Beneficiaries who are satisfied with their current coverage generally do not need to take action, but should review any changes to their plan's premiums, benefits, prescription drug coverage, and provider networks for the upcoming year.
"Medicare provides health care coverage for millions of seniors, including more than 270,000 in New York's 24th Congressional District, and it is important that beneficiaries understand their options before the December 7 deadline," said Congresswoman Tenney. "Changes to premiums, prescription drug costs, and provider networks can have a significant impact on seniors living on fixed incomes. I encourage seniors on Medicare to review their coverage, compare available plans, and make informed decisions about their health care needs for the coming year. My office remains available to help constituents navigate federal agencies and access the resources they need."
Medicare beneficiaries can access the following resources during Open Enrollment:
Beneficiaries should carefully review their Annual Notice of Change and Evidence of Coverage documents, confirm that their preferred doctors and hospitals remain in-network if applicable, and check whether their prescription medications are covered before selecting a plan.
