TIF Funding Would Support Two Chicago Public Schools Improvement Projects

Improvements to two Chicago Public Schools would be supported by more than $2 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) proposed to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School, at 3444 W. Wabansia Ave. in Humboldt Park, would receive $1.15 million from the Pulaski TIF district for construction of an artificial turf soccer field.
Suder Montessori Magnet School, at 2022 W. Washington Blvd. on the Near West Side, would receive $1 million from the Central West TIF district for improvements to the gym floor, classroom ceilings and school lighting.
The City's TIF program uses new property tax growth within designated districts to support public and private investments within their boundaries.
