City to Deploy White Flag Activation Tonight Through the Weekend

The City of Greensboro will activate a White Flag warming center tonight, Friday, January 16, and continue through the weekend in response to anticipated freezing overnight temperatures.

First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., will provide overnight shelter from 7 pm Friday, January 16, to 7 am Saturday, January 17. The church will offer shelter during the same hours Saturday and Sunday nights, through 7 am Monday, January 19. The First Baptist warming center is open to single adults and families.

Interactive Resource Center employees trained to work with special populations and coordinate services upon request will staff the First Baptist location.

The City's Community Safety Department activates White Flag status when the actual or "feels-like" temperature is 32 degrees or less for two or more hours. A White Flag alert can take effect when the forecast or current conditions include a winter weather event with freezing precipitation, extended below-freezing temperatures, and/or wind concerns, which may impact homeless encampments.
