Hate-related graffiti investigation and arrest update: C26-1086

As previously released:

On January 5, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service held a live news conference regarding an investigation concerning hate-related graffiti that was reported in and about the Crescentwood neighbourhood.

Update:

Investigators from the Major Crimes Division - Hate Crimes Section determined that on January 2, 2026, in the early morning hours, a man attended the Crescentwood area and spray painted random and hate-related graffiti on residential properties including garages, houses and vehicles.

In addition to the residential property damage, hate-related symbols were spray painted on the following locations:

  • The entrance of Munson Park in the 400 block of Wellington Crescent
  • The Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in the 500 block of Wellington Crescent
  • The Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Community Centre and Masjid in the 700 block of Ellice Avenue

With the assistance of community members who provided diligent reporting and video surveillance, police quickly identified a suspect.

On January 8, 2026, 34-year-old, Oliver Didtger EDERHOF was arrested and in consultation with Manitoba Prosecution Service, charged with:

Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment x 14

He was released on an Undertaking.
