Planning Ahead Keeps the Water Flowing

September is National Preparedness Month; a reminder that planning ahead can make all the difference during an emergency.

At Contra Costa Water District, we work year-round to ensure safe, reliable water even in the most challenging conditions. Our emergency planning spans decades and includes investments in seismic upgrades, backup power, redundant pipelines, and regular training. We also work closely with local agencies to maintain access to critical infrastructure and ensure rapid communication during major events.

What You Can Do:

  • Store at least one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days. Don't forget pets!
  • Sign up for My Water Report to track water use and receive alerts.
  • Visit ready.gov/plan to create an emergency plan for your household.
