MenuStudents and faculty from Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA)'s Rinker College of Business attended the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Meeting in Omaha on May 2, 2026, to gain insight into investing and venture capitalism.
Berkshire Hathaway is a holding company that owns and invests in major businesses. The shareholder meeting, sometimes referred to as "Woodstock for capitalists," attracts over 40,000 professionals every year with the promise of educational presentations, keynote addresses, Q&A panels, and networking events.
PBA has sent a delegation of students, faculty, and alumni to the meeting for several years, as it is one of the opportunities made possible through the AACSB-accredited business program. Several of this year's students were also a part of PBA's delegation to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January.
"Once you attend events with world leaders and the top global CEOs and see how warmly you are welcomed, there won't be a room where you feel unconfident expressing your views, upholding your values, and sharing your Christian faith," Dr. Alexandra Cook, PBA accounting professor, said.
Learning from the Pioneers
Berkshire Hathaway was transformed from a struggling textile company in the 1960's to the organization it is today by well-known investor Warren Buffett. Through his smart business decisions and unwavering faith in free enterprise, he grew the company's net worth to over $1 trillion. He also acquired companies such as Geico, Dairy Queen, and Duracell, as well as stock in Coca-Cola, Apple, and American Express.
At the age of 95, Buffett is finally ready to step down from day-to-day leadership, with Canadian businessman Greg Able becoming the new CEO. This significant transition was highlighted in the shareholder meeting program.
Cook was impressed by Able's presentation, which reassured shareholders about Buffett stepping down. Her opinion was featured in an article, by the international news agency, Reuters.
"It was also great to hear Warren Buffett speak in person, especially knowing that it may be his last time," PBA rising senior and business major, Trent Holloway, said.
Building Bridges for The Future
Holloway, currently enrolled in PBA's Master of Business 3+2 Program, aspires to become an entrepreneur and hedge fund manager. He thinks networking opportunities are vital for students like him who are looking to enter the business world. At the shareholders' meeting, he connected with people from a wide range of industries and backgrounds on an international scale.
"Some of the people I connected with asked me to reach out about potential internships and full-time jobs, and this will be extremely useful as graduation approaches," Holloway explained.
Experiential learning opportunities, such as the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Meeting, is built into the Rinker College of Business's programs to help students develop the skills and make the connections they need to thrive in their future careers in finance, economics, and investments.
