Executive Order Honors Sporting Community, Creates Opportunities for Outdoor Recreation, Investments in Managing Wildlife, Public Lands, Waters

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Donald Trump's Reinvigorating America's Hunting Heritage executive order creates new opportunities to hunt and fish on public lands while strengthening the role of hunters and anglers in conserving wildlife and managing invasive and overpopulated species. The order calls for improving access to public lands, reforming the U.S. Forest Service river-access lottery system to prioritize U.S. citizens and prohibit automatic computer entries, and facilitates more support for hunter education programs in classrooms.

"America's hunters and anglers are critical partners for conserving and managing our fisheries, wildlife, and public lands. This executive order recognizes their contributions and creates more opportunities for the sporting community to pass these traditions on to the next generation," said David Willms, associate vice president of public lands at National Wildlife Federation. "We will work with the administration to implement many of the executive order's objectives. We also want to make sure the administration has the resources necessary to meet the moment. Congress should move quickly on a Great American Outdoors Act 2.0 to strengthen the investments that make these opportunities possible."
