Gov. Reynolds orders flags at half-staff in honor and remembrance of Council Bluffs firefighter and paramedic Charles Jones

Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags flown at half-staff from sunrise on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, until sunset on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in honor and remembrance of Charles "Chuck" Jones, a firefighter and paramedic with the Council Bluffs Fire Department.

Jones died Thursday, October 8, 2026, following a medical emergency after responding to a house fire. Jones served as a member of the Council Bluffs Fire Department for 19 years.

"Chuck Jones was a beloved husband, father, son, and a member of the Council Bluffs Fire Department who bravely served his community for nearly two decades," Gov. Reynolds said. "The city of Council Bluffs has lost a hero, but the lasting impact of his commitment to protect and serve his neighbors will remain forever. Kevin and I are keeping his family and friends in our prayers."

Flags will be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
