Oct. 13 update: The eastbound I-90 lane reductions in Snoqualmie will happen in the left lanes. This release has been revised to reflect this update.
BELLEVUE- People should plan for delays the weekend of Oct. 16-19 as crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation close several major routes. Closures include all of northbound Interstate 405 in Bellevue and some lanes on both northbound I-5 in Seattle and eastbound I-90 in Snoqualmie.
People traveling northbound throughout the Puget Sound region should expect heavier traffic and longer travel times through Bellevue and Seattle, as drivers shift their routes during the closure.
All lanes of northbound I-405 will close from Southeast Eighth Street to Northeast Fourth Street from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19.
The following ramps will close:
Southeast Eighth Street on-ramp to northbound I-405
Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast Fourth Street/Northeast Eighth Street (Exit 13 A/B)
Signed detour routes will be in place. Crews will pave, install concrete panels and set an overhead sign structure during the closure as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.
Northbound I-5 in Seattle is reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge until the end of 2026 as part of the Revive I-5 Ship Canal Bridge Preservation project. The express lanes will remain open northbound-only 24 hours a day.
Two left lanes of eastbound I-90 from east of State Route 18/Snoqualmie Parkway to Southeast North Bend Way (milepost 26-27) will close from 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18.
This lane closure will allow WSDOT bridge maintenance crews to safely make bridge deck repairs.
To help ease congestion and delays, people can use transit and park-and-ride options, be flexible about travel times and plan ahead using real-time traffic information. These choices can make a meaningful difference during major closures and help keep both travelers and highway crews safe.
Much of this work requires good weather and may be rescheduled due to rain. Schedule updates will be available on WSDOT's online Travel Center map, the WSDOT mobile app and the WSDOT Engage page for I-405/SR 167 construction.
