WDM City Council Calls for Special Election

The West Des Moines City Council has called for a special election to be held on Tuesday, February 17, to fill the at-large Council seat held by Renee Hardman who resigned earlier this month after she was elected to serve in the Iowa State Senate.

Anyone interested in serving on the Council should contact Ryan Jacobson, City Clerk, at 515-222-3603 or [email protected]. Jacobson said 179 signatures are required on a candidate's nomination petition to run for office. All paperwork must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway, anytime from Tuesday, January 6, through 5 p.m. on Friday, January 23.

City Manager Tom Hadden said Hardman served for eight years on the City Council and was a trusted voice in the community. "Although we will miss her advocacy and passion on the Council, we're pleased she will continue serving as an elected official in the Iowa State Senate," he said.
