WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last night, news of a likely agreement between Hamas and Israel to begin a ceasefire and return the remaining Israeli hostages home was made public.
U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) issued the following statement:
"After two years of terrible conflict and suffering, it looks like a ceasefire will finally go into effect in Gaza and the hostages will be returned home to their families. Hopefully this critical breakthrough will be quickly followed by an immediate surge of humanitarian aid delivered by a multinational peacekeeping force and a genuine effort to find lasting and prosperous peace in the region through the acceptance of a durable and equitable two state solution."
