The Richardson Animal Shelter officially opened the doors today on its newly renovated facility. The Shelter is located at 1330 Columbia Dr.
As part of the voter-approved 2021 Bond Program, the Animal Shelter received a new main entrance, entry façade and expanded staff offices, in addition to new storage rooms, minor updates to the staff and public restrooms and the break room. The Shelter has been operating out of a temporary facility adjacent to the main Shelter since renovations began in February 2024.
Additionally, a new piece of public art was installed near the front entrance as part of the renovations. "The Town Musicians of Richardson," a colorful, 10-foot-tall cement sculpture covered in mosaic tiles is the creation of Texas artist Gigi Griffin Miller and depicts several types of pets. Integrating public art into new municipal construction is a central goal of Richardson's Public Art Master Plan.
