EU congratulatory Statement at the IAEA Board of Governors, 22 September 2025

Chair,

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union.

The European Union congratulates you on your election as Chair of the IAEA Board of Governors for the period of 2025-2026. We assure you of our full support and cooperation. We also congratulate the Vice-Chairs of the Board on the assumption of their duties.

Through you, the EU would like to wholeheartedly thank the outgoing Board Chair, Her Excellency Ambassador Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyem, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Ghana, for her able, competent and efficient leadership during the last period. It was a real pleasure to work with her and her team and we very much appreciated her personal commitment during yet another challenging year.

Let me also take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to the President of the General Conference, His Excellency Ambassador Peter Burian, and his team for the able and skilful stewardship of what proved to be very challenging session of the IAEA General Conference. I would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Riccardo Maschietto Ayrosa from Brazil for chairing the Committee of the Whole. The EU also thanks all Delegations who worked for a successful outcome of last week's General Conference.
