Mayor Whitmire encourages Houstonians to vote; METRO provides free rides to polls
Mayor John Whitmire encourages Houstonians to exercise their right to vote. To that end, the Mayor partnered with VoteHouston and METRO to help Houstonians get to the polls on METRO today.
METRO will offer free rides to the polls for Houstonians who show a valid voter registration card.
"Elections matter," Mayor Whitmire said. "It influences all of our decisions at every level of government."
Mayor Whitmire partnered with VoteHouston, a nonpartisan voter education initiative, and its 26 local nonprofit collaborators to help deliver crucial voter education before Election Day.
"We don't ever want transportation to be a barrier to getting out to vote," METRO chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock said.
