Kean Delivers $530,000 to the City of Summit for Sidewalk Improvements

(August 21, 2026) SUMMIT, NJ - Yesterday, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) presented $530,000 to the City of Summit for vital sidewalk improvements on Glenside Avenue.

Glenside Avenue is a high-traffic street with access to I-78. These upgrades will include the installation of new ADA-compliant sidewalks.

"It is important that people of all abilities can safely use the sidewalks in our communities," said Congressman Kean. "I am proud to have delivered this funding for these vital improvements that will make Glenside Avenue safer and more accessible for the Summit community. Improved drainage along Glenside Avenue will also reduce hazards for pedestrians and drivers alike. I remain committed to prioritizing the safety of our local families here in New Jersey."

"I want to thank Congressman Kean for securing the federal funds for this important project," said Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD. "Our community is strongest when we listen to the needs of our residents and make thoughtful investments that improve their daily lives, safety, and well-being. This project is an example of what we can accomplish when local and federal partners work together to address community needs and create a safer city for everyone."

"We are grateful to Congressman Kean for recognizing the importance of investing in pedestrian safety here in Summit," said Police Chief Ryan Peters. "The Glenside Avenue project will provide much-needed drainage improvements and new ADA-compliant sidewalks along a heavily traveled corridor, creating a safer and more accessible route for residents of all ages. From a public safety perspective, infrastructure improvements like these are an important part of making our roadways safer for everyone who uses them."

"Investing in our community shouldn't divide us. This is what happens when people come together around a shared goal and actually get something done," said Councilman Jamel Boyer. "I'm grateful to Congressman Kean for making this investment in Summit possible."

"Thank you to Congressman Kean for his commitment to this project, which addresses two of Summit's critical issues, pedestrian safety and stormwater management," said Councilman Dan Crisafulli. "This is a great example of Summit working together, across party lines, over a period of many years to bring this important project to reality."

Since taking office, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. has secured more than $3.4 million for accessible walkways across New Jersey's Seventh Congressional District through the Community Project Funding process.

All 15 projects that Congressman Kean was allotted for the FY2026 Community Project Funding process have now passed the U.S. House of Representatives. View the full list of projects HERE.
