The City of Spokane has received $1 million in Wildfire Housing Assistance Funds from the Washington State Department of Commerce that will be passed through to residents impacted by and/or evacuated during the Spokane Complex Fire.
This funding, which will be administered by Goodwill Industries, will go directly toward rental assistance, utilities, and leasing costs. It also includes flexible funding which can be used for resources like medical devices, furniture, gas, and more.
Based on information collected at the Disaster Assistance Center, the City worked with Commerce to expand the eligibility criteria to include residents with a household income at or below 120% of the Area Median Income ($90,000-$108,000 for a household of three). The City and Goodwill have already started the process of identifying eligible residents and will begin enrollments and outreach soon.
"The City of Spokane has a strong partnership with the Department of Commerce and Goodwill Industries. We know the need is urgent, and we are focused on getting these funds deployed as quickly as possible to provide meaningful assistance to those who need it most," Mayor Lisa Brown said.
This funding can be backdated for expenses starting on July 31 and must be spent by January 2027. Spokane County has also received an additional allocation.
