On September 27, 2025 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, addressed the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. In his speech, the head of the Foreign Ministry gave a comprehensive assessment of the current situation on the international arena, highlighting the main trends in the development of the world order, as well as the challenges and threats facing humanity.
The Minister emphasized the key role of unity and joint efforts in maintaining peace, protecting human rights, and preserving historical memory. He noted that the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II serves as a reminder of the heroism of nations and the danger of falsifying history, rewriting textbooks, and destroying monuments, which threatens to repeat the tragedies of the past.
The historical overview highlighted the decisive role of the Soviet people in liberating Europe, as well as the importance of memory in educating new generations. The Minister recalled the prophetic words of the President of Belarus that for many centuries, the fate of the world was decided only by individual states, which regarded other peoples as a disenfranchised mass.
Belarus has identified the need to reform the UN, including expanding the Security Council and strengthening the Organization's role as a fair forum for addressing global issues. Particular attention is paid to the principle of indivisible security and the consequences of its violation, including the militarization of Europe and growing tensions on its eastern borders.
The Minister highlighted the active development of regional cooperation and multipolar architecture through BRICS, the SCO, the EAEU, the African Union, and the LAS. Special mention was made of the initiative by Belarus and Russia to create a Eurasian Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity, aimed at strengthening equal and indivisible security, dialogue, and mutual respect between states.
Belarus once again called for joint efforts by the global community to prevent conflicts and build a just and sustainable world order.
The Minister met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres. They discussed ways to strengthen the central role of the UN in ensuring international security and sustainable development, as well as the need to develop collective solutions to the pressing challenges of our time. The Belarusian side confirmed its readiness to contribute to the consolidation of efforts by states within the framework of genuine multilateral cooperation.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General for supporting Belarusian initiatives at the UN on the Chernobyl issue, combating human trafficking, and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the meeting between the Minister and the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, the agenda of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, issues of reforming the organization, and the election of the next UN Secretary-General were discussed. The Belarusian side particularly emphasized the need to ensure equal rights for all states in the activities of the Assembly. The Minister stressed the importance of maintaining effective UN governance. The unacceptability of a selective approach and the application of double standards, which undermine confidence in the universal nature of the United Nations, was noted.
Minister M.Ryzhenkov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Diaspora of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf. The steady development of Belarusian-Algerian relations was noted, schedules for upcoming visits at the highest and high levels were discussed, as well as issues of coordination of actions in international organizations.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in expanding the regulatory framework, as well as developing trade and economic interaction, industrial cooperation, agricultural and scientific and technical cooperation.
