CBP Air and Marine Operations, U.S. Coast Guard Interdict Smuggling Vessel, Apprehend 23 Illegals

MIAMI - CBP Air and Marine Operations and the U.S. Coast Guard interdicted a smuggling vessel early Tuesday morning, resulting in the apprehension of 23 illegal aliens near Angelfish Creek, Florida.

On Sept. 15, 2026, an Air and Marine Operations Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft conducting an Operation Vigilant Sentry patrol detected a surface target of interest off the Florida coast. Marine Interdiction Agents from the Miami Marine Unit and Key Largo Marine Unit coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard for a successful interdiction of the 27-foot cuddy cabin vessel without incident.

The interdiction resulted in the apprehension of one suspected smuggler, a Cuban national, and 22 illegal aliens of various nationalities. The group included eight Ecuadorian nationals, 13 Chinese nationals, and one Dominican national.

"Attempting to enter the United States illegally by sea is extremely dangerous and will not go undetected," said Executive Director Andres Blanco, Southeast Region. "This interdiction demonstrates the strength of our maritime partnerships and our commitment to stopping human smuggling organizations before they can put more lives at risk. Those who attempt these dangerous voyages face arrest, prosecution, removal, and the very real possibility of losing their lives at sea."

The individuals were transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Pablo Valent for processing. The vessel was seized by authorities.
