The Dean's Advisory Board of the Adelphi University College of Nursing and Public Health [CNPH] has added two new members: Marc Adler '88, MD, senior vice president and chief of hospital operations at NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk (formerly Long Island Community Hospital), and Jennifer McIntosh, PhD '21, MS '24, senior lecturer at the Yale University School of Nursing.
Since 2024, Dr. Adler has overseen the daily operations and future strategic planning for the hospital and its affiliation with NYU Langone. Previously, he was chief medical officer for NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island.
Dr. McIntosh obtained her PhD in Nursing from Adelphi in 2021 and returned to the University to earn an MS specializing as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner in 2024. She is board certified as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner by the ANCC and AANP and is licensed to practice in New York and Connecticut. Additionally, Dr. McIntosh holds board certifications as a nurse educator and advanced nurse executive.
The board's membership is at an all-time high with 14 members, since Kathleen Masiulis '78, MS '85, who had joined in 2017, has stepped down; she remains a board member emerita. This is the first major change to the board since 2018.
Comprising accomplished CNPH alumni, community health partners, external donors and various leaders in the fields of healthcare, media and the law, the Dean's Advisory Board convenes at least twice during the academic year to discuss the strategic direction of the College; staff, administrative and programmatic developments; and fundraising goals.
As advisory board members represent a variety of sectors and have nearly a century of service to the College, their input and feedback are invaluable to Dean Deborah Hunt, PhD '12. Early on in her tenure at Adelphi, Dean Hunt quickly identified the growth and development of the board as one of her strategic priorities. She and her executive leadership team, supported by Adelphi's Senior Director of Advancement Erin Gayron, quickly identified other key prospects to add to the board's already considerable wealth of knowledge.
Dean Hunt and her executive leadership team resumed the annual CNPH Awards reception, which honors endowed scholarship donors and pairs donors with their respective student recipients. At the latest event, more than 16 generous CNPH donors appeared with their grateful student recipients, who heard from their donors about their connections to Adelphi and the very personal and meaningful reasons they continue to donate.
Several long-serving members of the Dean's Advisory Board-including Robert Keane and Frank Gumper-were honored for the decades-long impact their endowed scholarships have had on the lives of CNPH students. With a constant focus on the development of new innovative healthcare programs, Dean Hunt is looking forward to both Dr. Adler's and Dr. McIntosh's rich guidance as CNPH expands its programmatic and academic clinical partnerships portfolios.
In September 2024, long-serving advisory board members Gumper, Keane, retired U.S. Navy commander Dianne Wamsley '84, and Jerry Landsberg, were on hand (and on Zoom) to welcome Dr. Adler to his first CNPH Dean's Advisory Board meeting.
