Rep. Sykes Votes Against Annual Defense Bill After Republicans Attach Voter Suppression Measure

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted against H.R. 8800, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027, after House Republicans attached the voter-suppressing SAVE America Act to the annual defense bill.

Rep. Sykes has consistently opposed the SAVE America Act because the legislation would create unnecessary barriers for eligible Americans to register to vote, including women who change their names after marriage, and older Americans.

"Republicans refuse to accept that their voter suppression tactics don't pass the smell test and won't make their way through Congress," said Rep. Sykes. "So, instead of focusing on the needs of the American people, like supporting our service members and strengthening our national security, they are obsessed with taking away Americans' rights. I will always stand against those efforts."

The NDAA passed the House and now moves to the Senate for consideration.
