Chicago's West Garfield Park neighborhood is investing in family-centered affordable housing with a 44-unit development designed to support multigenerational living and strengthen long-term community stability. Developed by United for Better Living Inc., C.A.R.E. Manor represents an important step in addressing the ongoing need and expanding access to quality housing for families while supporting continued neighborhood revitalization on Chicago's West Side. NEF's Taylor Thorn attended the groundbreaking ceremony alongside development partners, City officials and community stakeholders.
The development will include 44 affordable homes serving households earning 30%, 50%, and 60% of the area's median income (AMI). All units are designed with accessibility and long-term livability in mind, including adaptable features throughout the development.
This development is part of NEF's AHEAD initiative, which was established in order to build the financial capacity and experience of non-traditional developers to help them overcome today's high barriers of entry in accessing LIHTC to create new affordable housing. NEF is proud to support C.A.R.E. Manor through our partnership and capital solutions that advance our mission of expanding the creation and preservation of affordable housing.
