Public Notice: Temporary Lane Closures on Lake Morton Drive

Improving water quality at Lake Morton with installation of a nutrient removal demonstration project

LAKELAND, FL (July 17, 2026) | On Monday, July 20, 2026, the City of Lakeland will begin construction of three Phosphorus Elimination Systems with Denitrification (PES+N) modules at Lake Morton to remove nitrogen and phosphorus from the lake's surface water The modules will be installed on the western side of Lake Morton and operated for a two-year demonstration period.

During the initial construction phase, temporary lane closures and traffic control measures will be in effect on Lake Morton Drive from July 20 through July 23, between 7:30 AM. and 5:00 PM. Motorists traveling through the area should use caution and follow posted traffic control measures. Construction is anticipated to be completed by Friday, July 31, 2026.
