City offices closed Friday, July 3 for Independence Day

(COLUMBIA, MO) - City of Columbia offices will be closed Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

All residential and commercial trash collections will run Friday, July 3. There will not be a delay because of the holiday. The landfill will also be open to the public on Friday with normal operating hours.

The Solid Waste Utility has also canceled the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event scheduled for Saturday, July 4.

Residents can download the COMO Recycle and Trash App for collection day reminders and service notifications. Questions concerning the collection schedule should be directed to the Contact Center at 573.874.CITY (2489).

Go COMO, Columbia's public transit system, will operate its normal weekday schedule Friday, July 3. Go COMO will not operate fixed-route or Paratransit service Saturday, July 4. However, free shuttle service will be available July 4 between all six City downtown parking garages and Stephens Lake Park, site of the City's Fire in the Sky celebration.

Shuttles will run continuously from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m., transporting riders between downtown parking garages and Stephens Lake Park. Passengers can track shuttle locations in real time @using the ETA Transit app. Fire in the Sky begins at 6:30 p.m. with children's activities, live entertainment and food trucks, followed by a fireworks display at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Parking enforcement in both City parking garages and at on-street parking spaces will be suspended July 3-5. During this period, residents may park free of charge in any City parking garage hourly or permit space, as well as at on-street parking spaces. Please do not park in spaces marked as reserved or otherwise restricted.

The City's Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) will operate at normal hours on Friday, July 3 and at reduced hours Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center, Douglass Family Aquatic Center and Lake of the Woods Pool will be open July 4 from noon to 5 p.m. The Armory Sports and Recreation Center and Hillcrest Community Center will be closed Friday, July 3.

Although administrative offices for both the police and fire departments will be closed, all other emergency services will be available.

Columbia Police urge residents to drive safely, unimpaired and within posted speed limits if community members are traveling for the holiday. CPD also reminds residents that possessing or discharging fireworks within the City of Columbia limits is prohibited.

Residents with a fireworks complaint can contact the Boone County Joint Communications non-emergency line at 311. Residents should call 911 only for emergencies.

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will be closed Friday, July 3. Normal business hours will resume Monday, July 6, at 8 a.m.
