On January 10th, H.E. Amb. Jiang Feng, Head of Mission of China to the African Union, met with H.E. Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the AU Commission. Counsellor He Kaihui and other officials were present.
Amb. Jiang stated that, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of launching diplomatic relations between China and Africa, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, paid a visit to the African Union. This marked the 36th consecutive year for Africa to be the destination of the Chinese Foreign Minister's first overseas trip in a new year. During the visit, Minister Wang Yi and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf jointly held the ninth China-AU Strategic Dialogue, and attended the launching ceremony of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, reflecting the inheritance of China-Africa friendship and the solidarity of developing countries. I stand ready to work with the Commissioner to continue strengthening China-Africa cooperation under frameworks such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, so as to better benefit the peoples of both sides.
Prof. Banyankimbona expressed high appreciation for China's long-standing and significant contributions to peace and development in Africa, commended the fruitful outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the tangible benefits it has brought to the peoples of Africa and China, and expressed willingness to further strengthen cooperation with China in the fields of education, science and technology so as to add further luster to China-Africa people-to-people exchanges.
