Why This Game Will Look Like a Raiders Reunion

When the New York Sirens host the Seattle Torrent on April 4, it will be a special moment for both sides as they face off inside Madison Square Garden for the first-ever Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) game at the "World's Most Famous Arena."

But for certain members from both teams, there's another reason why the event will have greater significance: The game will look like a mini Colgate reunion.

That's because the two teams combined have six former Raiders on their rosters, including two goaltenders who might both be in goal for that game.

Plus, there's Sirens head coach Greg Fargo, who spent 12 seasons at the helm for the Raiders, becoming the winningest coach in program history before departing in June 2024 to head New York's PWHL franchise.

The two teams have met twice already this season, and will square off again on March 25 in Chicago before their showdown in New York. The game at MSG is sold out.

Fargo said each game against his former Colgate players has been special.

"It's something I'm really proud of," Fargo said. "But more than anything, it speaks to the consistency of the women's hockey program at Colgate."

Fargo has three Colgate alumnae on his team - forward Kristyna Kaltounkova '24, defender Allyson Simpson '24, and goalie Kayle Osborne '24. Their familiarity with each other has been a benefit to all, Fargo said.

"What that has allowed us to do is hit the ground running," Fargo said. "We have a lot of experience working with each other. A lot of great memories at Colgate. To have that experience to lean back on, it has played an important role for all three of them and myself as well. It has allowed us to get off to a great start and continue the great player-coach relationship."

The Torrent - one of two new PWHL franchises this season - has three former Raiders in forward Jessie Eldridge '19, forward Danielle Serdachny '24, and goaltender Hannah Murphy '25.

Not only did Fargo coach these players during their college years, he also helped to recruit them while they were teens in junior hockey.

"As a coach, you spent so much time with them during such formative years in their college careers and development," Fargo said. "To see them in that kind of stage, not only in professional hockey but at a place like Madison Square Garden, it's not just a great reflection for Colgate and women's hockey, but it goes to show how much the women's game has grown over the years. It's really a culminating event."

Fargo transformed Colgate Women's Hockey into a powerhouse that won four straight ECAC conference championships and made two visits to the NCAA Frozen Four. In the process, the Raiders recorded memorable victories over some of the top programs in the nation.

In addition, Fargo and his staff recruited a plethora of top-tier talent. A number of these student-athletes went on to compete in different levels of the international stage, including the Collegiate Select Series and the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Some of the most accomplished Raiders in program history played under Fargo, such as Serdachny, Kaltounkova, and Elyssa Biederman '26. Those three players are ranked first, second, and third, respectively, in all-time program scoring.

Kaltounkova went on to become the No. 1 pick in the PWHL Draft last June. Now as a rookie, she quickly emerged as a force for the Sirens. She was leading the league in goals with 11 as of March 9.

Serdachny racked up a laundry list of honors at Colgate. Her achievements include being named a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award runner-up in 2023 and a top-10 finalist in 2024. The annual award is given to the NCAA's top women's hockey player. Serdachny went on to be drafted No. 2 overall in 2024 by the Ottawa Charge before signing with the Torrent last summer.

Murphy, a standout in goal at Colgate, was the first goalie taken in the 2025 draft when Seattle selected her at No. 15. She's 1-1 against the Sirens this season, which includes a 2-1 win on Dec 3.
