Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf is pleased to welcome Juris P. Simanis, MD, a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician specializing in non-surgical orthopedic and musculoskeletal care. His clinic is located inside the Medical Office Building on the hospital campus at 3871 E. Highway 98, Suite 201.
"Before Dr. Simanis' arrival, Gulf and Franklin County residents often traveled an hour or more for specialized sports medicine care," said Will Condon, Ascension Sacred Heart Health System President and CEO. "Bringing a fellowship-trained physician to our community allows patients to receive quality care close to home."
Dr. Simanis brings more than 20 years of sports medicine experience to the region, focusing on non-surgical treatments for joint and muscle conditions. His background includes 20 years as a lead team physician for college athletic programs, caring for student-athletes across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as professional athletes.
After completing a comprehensive two-year sports medicine fellowship at the University of Missouri, Dr. Simanis earned advanced certification in musculoskeletal ultrasound. He uses precision imaging to diagnose injuries and guide treatments directly to the source of pain. Additionally, Dr. Simanis brings specialized training in wilderness and marine medicine, offering a unique perspective for active coastal lifestyle injuries.
When clinically appropriate, Dr. Simanis offers minor procedures to help reduce pain, restore movement, and support long-term recovery. His care options include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, micro-incision tendon repair, and targeted nerve treatments for chronic knee, shoulder, and hip pain. He works closely with student-athletes, active adults, and workers to create individualized treatment plans that align with each patient's personal goals.
"My goal is to listen closely to every patient and build a personalized treatment plan grounded in compassion, teamwork, and proven medicine," said Dr. Simanis. "I am glad to bring this level of care to the Gulf Coast so residents do not have to travel long distances to get back to the activities they love."
Dr. Simanis is now accepting new patients. Most insurance plans are accepted, and doctor referrals are generally not required, depending on coverage. To schedule an appointment or verify insurance coverage, call 850-229-3753. For more information, visit Ascension.org/GulfFL.
