2026 WA Multicultural Awards set the stage for Harmony Week celebrations

• Western Australian Multicultural Awards recognise individuals and organisations contributing to multiculturalism in Western Australia

A para-footballer from East Africa who mentors young people and a police officer who helps new migrants navigate essential services are among 12 individuals and organisations recognised at the 2026 Western Australian Multicultural Awards.

The awards, held last night, recognise outstanding contributions to multiculturalism and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The awards marked the start of Harmony Week 2026 in WA.

Harmony Week, held annually from 15 to 21 March, encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate WA's wealth of cultural, religious and linguistic diversity.

The week ends on 21 March with a day of reflection, acknowledging the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

This year, the Cook Government, with funding of $67,100, is supporting a range of Harmony Week events across regional WA, helping to spread the message of inclusion and belonging throughout the State.

This includesarts projects, community activations, street parades, markets, sporting events, children's activities and educational programs led by local government authorities in collaboration with public sector agencies, non-government organisations, service providers, community associations, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse community associations and local businesses.

Events will be held in Geraldton, Katanning, Karratha and Kalgoorlie.
