Background:

The Creese and Cook (Former) Tannery Superfund Site is located in Danvers, Massachusetts. A leather tannery and finishing facility was operated at the Site from 1903 to 1983. Operations on-site led to contamination of surface and subsurface soils with tannery wastes, and contaminants exceeded state and EPA health-based standards in multiple locations. The main contaminant of concern is arsenic in soil. However, other contaminants such as asbestos, lead, chromium, dioxins, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are present on parts of the Site, including in some of the wetland sediments.

Visit the Creese and Cook Superfund Site webpage for more information.
