FERC Commissioner David LaCerte Confirmed for Second Term

The United States Senate today confirmed David LaCerte for a second term as Commissioner at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), extending his appointment until June 30, 2031. Commissioner LaCerte was first sworn in on October 27, 2025, to serve the remainder of a term expiring on June 30, 2026.

During his initial term, Commissioner Lacerte's focus has been on advancing and modernizing long overdue infrastructure projects, advancing grid reliability, and keeping energy affordable for American households and industry. He has been actively engaged in modernizing the Commission's permitting processes, supporting reforms to reduce regulatory delays and providing greater certainty to speed up infrastructure projects needed to meet rising energy demand.

"His contributions to the Commission have been invaluable, and I am grateful to have him with us as we tackle unprecedented challenges during this period of energy transformation."

Prior to joining FERC, Commissioner LaCerte practiced law as a preeminent energy sector incident response counsel with extensive Clean Air Act litigation experience. He has over a dozen presidential and gubernatorial appointments, and has led large and small federal agencies, serving as Principal White House Liaison and Senior Advisor at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Acting Managing Director of the U.S. Chemical Safety Board and as a state Cabinet Secretary in his home state of Louisiana. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Commissioner LaCerte holds a Juris Doctor from LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts from Nicholls State University.
