On June 18, 2026, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev spoke at the second plenary session of the Russia-ASEAN Summit, titled "Integration Processes in the Eurasian Space."
The session was opened by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos. Other speakers of the the session were ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintayev, and President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin.
In his remarks, Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that in last year's Tianjin Declaration, the leaders of the SCO member states reaffirmed their commitment to shaping a space of broad, open, and mutually beneficial cooperation in Eurasia. In this regard, the alignment of multilateral initiatives is of great importance, including dialogue between the SCO, the CIS, the CSTO, the EAEU, ASEAN, CICA, and other international structures, which resonates with Russia's initiative to create a Greater Eurasian Partnership.
The Secretary-General pointed out the special place of SCO-ASEAN interaction in this process. He emphasized that both organizations are united by a commitment to ensuring sustainable development and building a just multipolar world order. The potential of such cooperation could become an important factor in strengthening stability across the Eurasian space.
On the sidelines of the summit, Nurlan Yermekbayev held a number of bilateral meetings.

Nurlan Yermekbayev held talks with Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Theresa Lazaro. The parties exchanged views on current areas of interaction between the SCO and ASEAN, taking into account the Philippines' chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2026.

Nurlan Yermekbayev also had contacts with heads of government and foreign ministers of Russia and several ASEAN countries, with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, and with Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintayev. At the invitation of the leadership of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Secretary-General visited the exhibition "Made in Tatarstan."
