Trinity Athletics in Top-10 Learfield Cup Standings After Winter Sports

The Trinity University Department of Athletics remains in the top 10 in Division III after the latest Learfield Directors' Cup standings for the winter sports season were announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

The Tigers are ninth in the standings released this week but will move to 10th after the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Championship game is completed. Trinity scored points in men's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, and women's indoor track & field, totaling 193.5 points across the four sports and bringing the overall 2025-26 school year total to 527.5 points. This is the first time since 2004-2005 that Trinity is in the top 10 after the winter standings.

Men's basketball reached the second round of the NCAA Playoffs and finished in a tie for 17th to score 50 points. Trinity finished with a 22-7 overall record and a 12-2 mark in Southern Athletic Association play in the first season under the direction of Head Coach Marwan Elrakabawy .

The Tiger swimming & diving teams both finished in the top 25 with seven men's and women's swimmers. Luke Fender (Jackson, Miss. / St. Andrew's Episcopal) and Jack Hester (Round Rock, Texas / Cedar Ridge) both earned All-America honors and led Trinity to a 23rd-place finish and 51 points. Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird) was an All-American in four events, including the 800 free relay team that added All-American honors for Kaya Alvegaard-Struble (Kansas City, Mo. / Pembroke Hill), Amy Benson (Newmarket, N.H. / Phillips Exeter Academy), and Julia Carter (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs), and placed the women's team 21st nationally with 53 points scored.

Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) finished third in the women's indoor long jump to snag 31st place for Trinity's team and 39.5 points towards the Directors' Cup standings.

Trinity is led by Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Bob King , who has earned the NACDA Division III Athletic Director of the Year award four times and has led the nationally recognized Trinity Athletics program since the 1993-94 season. He has most recently guided the department to a new conference as the Tiger teams now compete in the SAA in all 20 sports.
