Redwood City Seeks Community Input to Shape Economic Vitality Strategy

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2026) - The City of Redwood City is seeking community input to help shape its first five-year Economic Vitality Strategy, a roadmap for supporting local businesses, attracting new investment and strengthening economic opportunities throughout the city.

A community survey is now open through Oct. 30 for residents, businesses and visitors to share their perspectives on Redwood City's economic strengths, challenges and opportunities. The feedback will help inform the priorities and investments included in the citywide strategy.

Redwood City has changed significantly over the past decade, with new housing and commercial development downtown, continued growth in major employment areas such as Redwood Shores and east of Highway 101, and evolving commercial corridors throughout the city. Building on and taking into account feedback gathered as part of the Greater Downtown Area Plan, the Economic Vitality Strategy will help the City take a more coordinated approach to supporting businesses, guiding public investment, and responding to changing economic conditions.

The strategy is also intended to strengthen Redwood City's broader business support network by connecting employers, small businesses, nonprofits, workforce and education partners, regional agencies and residents.

Community outreach is underway this fall. In October, the City's consultant, Good City Company, will hold discussions with small and large businesses, developers, real estate professionals, colleges, workforce agencies and nonprofit organizations to gather additional feedback. Earlier this year, Good City Company gathered feedback from City Councilmembers and City staff on their take on Redwood City's economic strengths, needs and opportunities.

Feedback from the survey and other outreach will help staff refine proposed goals for City Council consideration at a study session planned for November. A draft strategy is expected in winter 2026-27, with adoption targeted for spring or summer 2027.
