As farmers across Njombe entered the harvest season, the Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC), in partnership with Mtewele General Traders and CROSE, brought together over 700 farmers for a practical learning and business networking platform under the theme "Climate-Smart Technologies and Practices for Sustainable Food Systems."
The Field Day was designed to help farmers protect the value of their harvest by connecting them to practical solutions that improve productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, strengthen grain quality, and expand access to finance and markets.
Throughout the day, farmers interacted with exhibitors, financial institutions, technology providers, and agribusinesses, gaining practical knowledge on climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest management, quality inputs, and market opportunities. Many also took the next step by purchasing certified seeds and other agricultural inputs in preparation for the coming production season.
The event, graced by the District Administrative Secretary of Wanging'ombe District, Ms. Veronica Sanga also reinforced the importance of quality production, value addition, stronger market linkages, and partnerships in improving farmer incomes and strengthening food security.
We thank our co-organizers, Mtewele General Traders and CROSE, together with our partners IDH Tanzania, PASS Trust, CRDB Bank, NADO, The Coca-Cola Company, the Wanging'ombe District Local Government Authority, exhibitors, and every farmer who made the event a success.
The journey continues. Building on the success of Njombe, EAGC now heads to Songwe Region for another Farmers Field Day on 17 July 2026 in Mlowo, Momba District, where farmers will once again have the opportunity to explore climate-smart technologies, crop demonstration plots, post-harvest solutions, mechanization, livestock innovations, business-to-business networking, and market and financing opportunities.
If you're in Songwe and the surrounding regions, we look forward to meeting you there as we continue connecting farmers to knowledge, technologies, finance, and markets.
