CHANDLER, Ariz. - Chandler Councilmember Matt Orlando has been selected to represent the National League of Cities (NLC) and serve on an inaugural five-member board of the Public Finance Network. In addition, he was elected as the first treasurer for the board.
In this role, Orlando will represent NLC and the nation's 19,000 cities, towns and villages by working with members of more than 40 organizations on the shared goal of protecting the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds.
"I'm honored to continue representing the City of Chandler and NLC in this new capacity," said Councilmember Orlando. "I will advocate for our residents as we seek to protect the use of municipal bonds that have built our community's and America's public infrastructure."
The Public Finance Network was formed in 1988 as a coalition of organizations united to preserve state and local government use of tax-exempt bonds for the wide array of local and state government financing and infrastructure activities.
Because the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds now faces unprecedented threats in Congress, inaugural board members are tasked with creating the framework for an entirely new organization. These tasks include approving formal business items and overseeing the organization's strategy, direction and selection of vendors.
The Public Finance Network offers insights and resources that advance the shared goal of protecting the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds. It enables all municipal market participants to solicit funds and advocate for the preservation of this finance method for communities.
NLC is the largest and most representative organization for cities, their elected leaders and municipal staff. It advocates for city priorities by building strong federal-local partnerships. Orlando has served on the NLC Board of Directors since November 2022.
