Congressman Nick Langworthy Announces $3 Million Federal Investment to Alfred State College for Workforce Development

Washington, DC--September 28^th… Congressman Nick Langworthy today announced nearly $3 million in federal funding for Alfred State College to modernize skilled-trades education, expand access to advanced technology and prepare students for in-demand careers across the region.

The investments include a $150,000 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) award for CNC machining enhancements and a $3 million ($1,797,430 in the first year) Department of Education Title III grant to expand access to skilled trades and next-generation technology.

Congressman Langworthy, who has made strengthening the skilled trades industry a top priority during his time in Congress said, "Alfred State has a long history of preparing students for good-paying careers in the skilled trades industry, and these investments will make sure that students have access to the tools and technology they need to compete in the modern workforce. We are working hard at the federal level to revive American manufacturing and strengthen domestic supply chains but if we are going to be successful, we need to make sure the next generation of workers is trained for these jobs. Whether it's a CNC machine, advanced manufacturing technology or artificial intelligence, our students will be able to gain the skills and experience necessary to hit the ground running."

ARC AWARD: $150,000 for CNC Machining Enhancements for Trades Education

This investment will modernize CNC equipment at Alfred State College, giving approximately 180 students hands-on training with technology used in today's manufacturing industry. By upgrading training facilities on the Alfred and Wellsville campuses, the Shaping Manufacturing Project will help prepare the next generation of American manufacturing workers with practical skills aligned to in-demand careers in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and electronics. The project is expected to help at least 150 students' complete courses, earn credentials, graduate, and enter the workforce equipped to contribute to America's advanced manufacturing future.

Department of Education Title III: $3 million to increase access to skilled trades and next generation technology

Alfred State College has been awarded $1,797,430 for this year, and a total of 3 million over 5 years, will strengthen skilled-trades education by investing in modern equipment, advanced technology, and updating to industry-standard laboratories to prepare students for the next generation of American manufacturing and construction. The initiative will create a smart campus with connected classrooms, upgraded technology infrastructure, AI-integrated curriculum, and opportunities for students to learn directly from industry leaders across the country. By combining hands-on training with expanded tutoring, coaching, financial literacy, and access to tools and technology, the grant will help more students successfully complete their programs and enter the workforce with the skills needed to compete in a rapidly evolving American economy.
