The arts and artists have played a vital role in the history of Rancho Cordova and will continue to inspire our community in the years ahead. After recently showcasing three vibrant asphalt murals on Lincoln Village Drive, the city is bringing even more creativity to our streets.
Earlier this month, the city collaborated with students from George Washington Carver High School to install rain-activated poetry at A.M. Winn Elementary and George Washington Carver High School, creating art that celebrates accessibility, creativity, and community.
The project was supported by the city's Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, and the poems were written by a Rancho Cordova poet and a Sacramento poet from 916 Ink.
"Temporary asphalt art lets us test ideas in Rancho Cordova that are proven to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. These pieces are quick to deliver, easy to adapt, and a powerful way to elevate our community." said Ian Winbrock, Management Analyst in the City Manager's Office, who coordinated the project and helped install the artwork.
Next time it rains, take a moment to see the poems appear and please share your feedback!
